Radio Frequency Calibration Technician

Position Summary: 

The Radio Frequency (RF) Calibration Technician is responsible for providing calibration services for RF and electrical test equipment. This full-time role involves performing calibrations, maintaining an internal calibration database, and generating calibration documentation. The technician also conducts routine inspections, performs preventive maintenance, and ensures accurate documentation of all calibration and maintenance activities.

Primary Objectives: 

  • Ensure the accuracy of RF and microwave measurement equipment using proper calibration standards.
  • Calibrate equipment correctly using both manual and automated procedures (SureCAL/ MET/CAL).
  • Analyze and interpret test data and documentation to complete calibration processes in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 and customer-specific requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate a wide range of high-frequency RF test equipment including Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Signal Generators, Pulse Generators, Frequency Counters, and Power Meters.
  • Perform calibrations in a safe, timely, and accurate manner while adhering to documented procedures and standards.
  • Apply metrology knowledge to troubleshoot and interpret calibration results.
  • Demonstrate understanding of TAR & TUR, traceability, uncertainty, and proper documentation practices.
  • Operate Calibration Management System (CMS) and document all calibration work with precision and compliance.
  • Work cross-functionally with various departments to ensure conformance to customer requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Accuracy of Measurement

  • Demonstrate an understanding of TAR & TUR.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of traceability.
  • Learn and develop an understanding of uncertainty and error.
  • Learns the proper use of the (CMS).
  • Proper Documentation

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a bench technician in a calibration or RF testing environment.
  • Military PMEL training or equivalent formal technical training required.
  • Proficiency in RF test equipment calibration and familiarity with SureCAL/ MET/CAL software.
  • Solid understanding of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, and ANSI/NCSL Z-540 standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and create/interpret calibration certificates and technical documents.
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with calibration management software (e.g., IndySoft, MET/CAL).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently and within a team setting.

Education and Experience:

  • AA/AS degree in Engineering, or other related technical field or equivalent military training preferred.
  • 3 or more years of relevant work experience in calibration, testing or engineering.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs, and use hands for extended periods.
  • Professional lab environment with a potential exposure to high voltage, chemicals, and mechanical parts.
  • Quiet to moderate noise levels; use of standard office and laboratory equipment.
